Momentum Collective Inc. is partnering with the city of Alexandria’s recreation department to produce the first of many children’s musical, with Alexandria youth between the ages of 8 and 16. This effort is supported in part by funding from the city’s Office of the Arts, and also through the support of the city’s housing authority. For the past seven (7) years, we have been working with a number of organizations within the city to leverage resources in order to ensure that we can continue to provide a host of supports and services to youth, at no cost.
After years of mounting highly successful musicals featuring adult artists, our first stab at a children’s production comes also off the heels of our rapid expansion of afterschool performing arts education to approximately 200 youth across the city of Alexandria. By the end of 2023 we will be providing programming at 10 sites across the city, in our ongoing effort to provide a positive outlet for youth while developing their artistic abilities and creative sensibilities.
Aladdin Jr., opens November 16 for a two-night performance, and features over 30 young performers, recreating a famous musical and providing a magical experience for the audience. Tickets are on-sale on our website, and the proceeds go towards supporting future children’s musicals in the city as well as expanding our existing afterschool arts education programs. The show runs for approximately 70 mins but will certainly leave you wanting more. Directed by our executive director, Jason Ellis, and supported by a team of seasoned theater professionals, this production is definitely a must see.
