We are celebrating black artistic excellence through our upcoming dance concert. Titled, “Beautiful Feet”, this two night performance will highlight powerful movements from Africa, the Caribbean, and the US. We are seeking local dancers to bring this vision to fruition. Auditions will be held on February 26, and rehearsals will begin early March. Interested dancers should complete the Audition Form and contact us to receive further instructions regarding their audition time slot.
The dance concert is being organized as a fundraiser to support programming for underserved youth who live in government assisted housing in Alexandria, VA, and further our mission to educate, enrich, and empower youth.
Format:
Participating choreographers from across the DMV area will showcase dance pieces in the following categories:
- Afro Fusion
- Steppin’/Crumpin’/Hip Hop
- Reggae/Jamaican folk/Dancehall
- Negro Spirituals/Afro Modern
The concert will include 4 spoken word presentations accompanied by choreographed pieces.
There will be two, 45-minutes halves with a 15 minute intermission between them. Pieces will reflect the theme of the concert and share a consistent message of how creativity was birthed out of struggle while celebrating cultural expressions in the diaspora. There will also be a strong push to showcase pieces with a social justice message.
We are seeking the highest standard of artistic representation and are hoping the pieces will push boundaries and celebrate a wide variety of dance styles.
Are the auditions for individuals of all ages because it states this organization is for under privileged youth but it doesnt specify if “beautiful feet” is only for youth.
