U-Street, the musical playwright, Jason Ellis, was recently recognized as part of the 2018 class of Alexandria Living Legends. He was nominated for his work as a social commentary playwright in the city and using the arts platform to serve low-income youth. Mr. Ellis currently serves as the Director of Resident and Community Services with the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority, and as the executive director for Momentum Collective Inc.  Though he moonlights as a playwright, his passion for serving underserved populations was his driving force for writing musicals that not only entertain but educate.
