August 4, Alexandria, VA – Zerik Brooks, who graduated T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, VA and who will be attending Virginia State University in the fall was the inaugural recipient of the Dream Scholarship provided by MC Inc. The initial cash award of $1,000 will be made payable to the academic institution and MC Inc’s executive director and board chair were on hand to make the presentation. The award took place at the main office for the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority.

To receive the award, applicants had to submit an essay, reside in government subsidized housing in Alexandria, be accepted to a 4-year college, and participated in the Momentum Leadership Program. The scholarship was created to lessen the financial burden of college enrollment for kids from low-income families and celebrate the many support systems that worked tirelessly behind the scenes to get our youth to this milestone.
