August 4, Alexandria, VA – MC Inc’s executive director created the Momentum Leadership Program in 2011 to help mold aspiring leaders and provide a host of development activities to youth residents of government assisted housing in Alexandria. More than 80% of the high school participants who finish the program end up attending college. This past year the program was funded by Alexandria City Public Schools through their Academic Intervention Services Grant.

At a graduation ceremony held at the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority’s main office, we celebrated 5 youth completing the program, with all graduating seniors going off to college in the fall. Graduates received certificates and cash awards and the keynote speaker was MC Inc’s board chair, Travis Nembhard. The overall Outstanding Leader Award was given to Leon Coleman, who you will undoubtedly hear about in the future as he pursues his dream of becoming a nationally recognized chef!
